I don't really believe in people saying "if the product is good enough, people will know about it". It might be right if you're established already and still... the reason it works is that people are paying attention and talking about it.

If you're a small business doing everything by yourself, you might need a little push and there's no harm asking for it. Also, if you're a tech business, don't fall into the trap of talking solely to tech people. People from other industries might benefit from your product and could generate extra revenue. Don't miss out.
